SELF DEFENCE

We learn a range of practical self defence techniques and develop a mindset to be able to identify, avoid, nullify and escape threats and attacks.

We respond rather than react. We learn to be mindful, focused and aware, and not be a victim.

Live training drills including multiple self defence are used to place the student under pressure and duress so they can learn to remain calm and focused under pressure while dealing with the physical aspects of an adrenalin dump.

Hapkido employs a range of kicks, strikes, locks, throws, takes downs and also uses practical weapons including Short Stick (Dan Bon), Rope and Cane.

We also focus on improvisation and using your environment to your advantage, this includes the use of improvised weapons e.g. phone, pen, umbrella, belt in defensive and offensive applications.

The development of the appropriate mind set is crucial. You must be able to escalate your physical response should the situation require it as your life may depend on it! You need to be prepared to take away an attacker’s ability to continue an assault or make the cost too high for them to do so, predators often target what they consider to be easy prey.

We examine and drill the mindset, attitude and practical self defence techniques to be able to do this and how it translates to a physical response, while aware of what is appropriate and proportionate.
